We Remember Sage

I lost a treasured friend today
The little dog who used to lay
Her gentle head upon my knee
And shared her silent thoughts with me.
She’ll come no longer to my call
Retrieve no more her favorite ball
A voice far greater than my own
Has called her to his golden throne.
Although my eyes are filled with tears
I thank him for the happy years
He let her spend down here with me
And for her love and loyalty.
When it is time for me to go
And join her there, this much I know
I shall not fear the transient dark
For she will greet me with a bark.

"Sage was more than just our dog she was our family. They say dogs are mans best friend and she without a doubt was. She taught us more than she ever will know on unconditional love, kindness, friendship, and strength. Through thick and thin she was always there for us.

Sage was with a family that couldn't care for her any longer and at that same time I was looking for a dog and a friend told me about this family and when I met her I knew she was coming home with me. I was in college then and she lived with me in my fraternity house and through time has traveled with me all over. From living in a few places around Pittsburgh we made the move to Raleigh, North Carolina. We had many road trips together to the beaches across North Carolina, Steelers games in Pittsburgh (even making it into Heinz Field) and other cities, Florida and Chicago. We didn't even think about not taking her we made plans where we went so she could go. She made road trips even more fun.

When times were tough for us she knew and was always by our sides. Even the little daily to do things with her around made our hearts smile to be able to do it with her. She truly warmed our hearts and we thank her  for that. When times in the end with her health got tough she was so strong never ever showing her struggles only her amazing strength. We say goodbye to our friend who will never be forgotten and is forever in our hearts. We love you and miss you so much. Till we meet again..."

Roxy was the best dog either of us has ever had and we felt privileged to share our lives with such a gentle spirit, always there when we needed her, with a smile and a wagging tail.  Even in her last days, when her pain and debilitation began to increase, she struggled to keep her head up and respond to us.  For many years, Roxy served as a blood donor at the NCSU Vet School.  When the tables were turned and Roxy needed their help, the Oncology and Internal Medicine Departments gave her the best of care, and everyone who worked with her was charmed by her sweetness and inspired by her determination.  The Vet School also gave her - and us - one final gift.  Earlier this year, as the new Terry Companion Animal Medical Center was nearing completion, Roxy had the opportunity to participate in a project to professionally photograph animals undergoing cancer treatment.  Her portrait is one of many beautiful black and white images that now grace the walls of the new Oncology department in this state-of-the-art facility.  Today Roxy smiles down from the back wall of the
Oncology consultation room.
