SPAY & NEUTER SERVICES FOR YOUR PETS

Your pet is a companion, a friend, and a member
of your family. Spaying and neutering your pet can help prevent
many serious medical illness and behavior problems. Spaying
female cats and dogs before their first heat cycle is the best way
to prevent mammary cancer. In addition, intact female cats and dogs
are extremely prone to developing severe life-threatening uterine
infections call pyometra. Neutering male cats and dogs prevents
urine marking in the home and aggressive behavior tendencies. In
addition, intact male dogs and cats are prone to prostate
infections, testicular cancer, and certain anal tumors.
Spay
and neuter procedures are extremely safe for cats and dogs. Even
when the procedure is done in young puppies and kittens, it has
become a very safe procedure. At Animal Hospital at Brier Creek
safety of our patients is our primary concern. All patients have
pre-operative blood work prior to any anesthesia to make sure they
are healthy. The day of the procedure, the doctor examines the pet
to make sure there are no health concerns. All pets receive the
best and safest pain control and anesthetics available. Placement
of an IV catheter allows administration of IV fluids to prevent
harmful side effects of anesthesia. In addition, there is immediate
access to a vein in case the animal needs medications or is painful
or nervous when waking up. We have the best monitoring equipment
available, including an EKG, blood pressure monitor, capnometer
(monitors carbon dioxide), and pulse oximeter (monitors oxygen), and
a superiorly trained veterinary nurse. Our patients all recover in
a warm heated bed surrounded by soft warm blankets. Dogs and cats
have separate ICU wards which are quiet and warm.
