The Big 2-0: Happy Birthday Typhoon!

Keep on keeping on and being you Ty Ty!

Our beloved mascot Typhoon just had a milestone birthday. Can you believe our fearless leader is 20 years old?! We are so proud. It is quite an achievement for a cat to turn 20. Of course, Ty Ty has always had the very best in care at AHBC.

Typhoon has had three rounds of chemotherapy in the past three months, a treatment that has dramatically improved his irritable bowel syndrome. After many adjustments to his diet and medications, Typhoon’s diarrhea has completely resolved. Plus he’s been eating well and even gained weight—remarkable progress for a cat his age with advanced kidney disease.

We keep Ty happy and comfortable on a specific, and extensive, list of old-cat drugs: amlodopine for high blood pressure, mirtazapine to stimulate appetite, gabapentin for pain, probiotics for digestion and gut health, a glucosamine supplement for joints and mobility, and more.

We are still keeping a close eye on Typhoon’s kidney and liver values through regular blood work. At the turn of the year, he actually wasn’t doing very well. We even thought we might lose him. The entire team was heartbroken. But thankfully, after several weeks of intensive care, he made an amazing turn-around.

Typhoon is one of the greatest cats we’ve ever known—and an essential member of our team. He has been a staple of our hospital almost since we opened. Everyone who walks through our door knows Ty Ty: the way he prances around the lobby, sits on our keyboards, and gives the best head-butts. We love you buddy!
